Rebecca Dykes (‘Becky’) was a 30-year old humanitarian worker. She was raped and murdered on 16 December 2017, in Lebanon, where she was working for the British Government to improve the lives of Syrian and Palestinian refugees and impoverished Lebanese.
Earlier in her career she’d volunteered in Bahrain where she was hosted by a Muslim family, helped disabled children and contributed to a climate change project. Later, as a British civil servant, she worked on conflict and stabilisation issues across a range of sub-Saharan African countries, as well as gender and conflict in Iraq and the stabilisation of Libya.
Becky was compassionate, caring and committed. She worked tirelessly to make the world a kinder, safer, more stable place. Let’s imagine her greeting everyone entering the doors of Becky’s Bathhouse with open arms and a welcoming smile!
